“Artificial Gravity” Song and the Legacy Code Series

First song from the Legacy Code soundtrack.

I’m working hard on finishing up Legacy Code (Note: it’s done now and available on Amazon!), so I thought I’d write a post about the song I’m recording for the series and share my latest playlist favorites.

Music is an important part of my life and I called myself a singer long before I ever finished my first novel.

I’m working on a full-length novel in the Legacy Code Saga: SunPath, which I hope to have ready for publication by 2015. (I have a lot of books in the Saga that come first!)

While working on the second draft of the book, I wrote a song.

The lyrics were meant to reflect the feelings my main character experiences, but the song sparked a lot of questions for me about who would have written the song in the Legacy Code universe and what their lives must have been like.

(Or will be like? It’s odd writing about a history that’s supposed to take place hundreds of years in the future.)

Legacy Code is the story that came from those questions and it’s the answer to what it was like before the events of the SunPath books.  For readers, of course, Legacy Code is simply the first book of the Legacy Code Saga.

The song I wrote is called “Artificial Gravity”  It has an interesting tribal-dubstep-cinematic-r&b feel to it. (Yeah, I get I’m smudging genre lines. I do the same thing in the stories I write. 😉 )

Anyway, I’m having a blast working on it with my producer and I can’t wait to get back in the studio and record the rest of the vocals. Here are the lyrics:

“Artificial Gravity”

A straight line
From first breath to last.
This recycled air remembers
All the lies told in its past.

Sins of the father,
That’s what they say.
That’s how life goes,
What we’re living today.

There’s more than this,
I feel it.
Drifting through this useless existence–

Held down
Held down
Held down
By artificial gravity.

Blinded by tradition
I slept, like those before.
But now I see the truth,
I’m awake and I want more.

There’s more than this,
I feel it.
Drifting through this useless existence–

Held down
Held down
Held down
By artificial gravity.

Hope’s a dying star.
We need a supernova.
To wipe space clean
And just start over

EDITED TO ADD: This song is done now! And here it is:

You can buy Legacy Code now and add it on Goodreads.

Top 5 songs on my writing playlist for August / September 2013

If you’re looking for some new great songs to listen to, these are the five I’m listening to the most as I write and revise this episode.

Fedde Le Grand & Nicky Romero – Sparks (Vicetone Remix)

I just love the vibe of this.

Eric Prydz – ‘Niton (The Reason)

This song has been on constant rotation for months now.

Civil Twilight- Letters From the Sky

I listened to an instrumental of this song while I wrote “Artificial Gravity” to get me in the right frame of mind for what I was trying to convey. It has a similar emotional tone to the song (though ArtGrav, as my producer and I call it, sounds nothing like this song and I haven’t had her listen to this track yet.)

Imagine Dragons- Tiptoe

Massive Attack – Teardrop

I love the sound of her voice.

What did you think?
